I have bought this player back in March for my 3 y.o. I have called the COBY and ask then to repair it. Which will cost me the same money as a player. It fits nice in the car. I told then that I am not going to buy anything else from them they did not care. We only used the product few times. I was satisfied with it at first. The said it is out of 90 days warranty and I have to take it to the local repair shop.
The DVD will spin the disc for the a minute or two and then display "Wrong Disc" message. After a while the DVD screen flashes and then goes dark. The customer service was rude.
We tried disc after disc and it never worked again. The screen just froze and nothing would work.
They watched a movie at home and it worked great. I bought this to replace the DVD player my kids use in the car.
Then they went to watch another movie and it stopped playing about 10 minutes into the movie. We were ALL excited it had two sets of headphones.
They used it in the car to watch one movie and it worked fine. We changed DVDs and it gave an error message of "Wrong disc".
I was going to get the same player again, b/c I really liked it, but upone further reflection, I think I won't buy this one again.
Please, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING COBY. She also was told that she would be better off just to purchase another one.
It quit after 6 months. She is 29 years old, so it was not because of abuse to the player.
I bought this unit for my grandaughter. She called their customer service with the warranty in hand, and was told that the warranty they had in their computer files was totally different from the one she received with the unit.
It had a one year warranty on parts, but, guess what. Coby doesn't stand behind their warranty.
Also, a repair shop stated that parts are virtually unavailable for Coby products. TOTAL JUNK
Plenty of extras are in the box: 2 sets of headphones, car charger, AC charger, video cable, mounting straps for a headrest (which I haven't tried yet), remote with batteries, and the player battery. The picture and sound are average or perhaps slightly above average.
The user manual inside the box does not indicate that it should be supported, although the outside of the box is explicit that they are supported. I have tried 5 discs and they all come up with "Wrong Disc" errors.
The box has a list of supported formats which includes DVD+-R and DVD+-RW, but I have two of these Coby 7050's and neither one will play a recorded DVD. I've only had the players for 1 week, but they seem solid and both work fine.
The player does support Video CD's on a CD-R, though I have problems with VCD's with menus. Auto-play VCDs play correctly, but I was unable to select a title inside a menu.
I purchased these with the 2 year warranty because I do anticipate they will break within the next 2 years and I'll want my money back when they do. I'd rate this a good investment, but not if you need to play recorded DVD's.
About the 4th month we started receiving a "Wrong Disc" error. I asked if they would reimburse me for the costs to get it fixed and she said no. I can't say that I was disappointed with the performance for the first 3 months. We recieved this product as a Christmas present this past year. I will go out and purchase a name brand product that will stand behind their products. My recommendation is to do the same. They recommended that I take it to Circuit City and they could fix it.
I told them that I already did that.
We bought a DVD lens cleaner which seemed to help but continued getting the error about once a week.
How ironic that this product starting acting up on the 4th month of use.
It was a great gift because we have a 1 year old and it pacifies her while we drive around town and take trips.
They only have a 90 day warranty.
Last week while we were vacationing, we got the wrong disk error with no recovery.
I called COBY and they recommended the disk cleaning.
I am very disappointed that COBY doesn't stand behind their products better than this.
DO NOT BUY FROM COBY.
